    Vidradhi: Causes, Pathogenesis, Types, Treatment, Medicines

    Vidradhi is compared to absces. Absces is a colection of pus that has built up within the tisues. It is thus a confined pocket of pus that colects in the tisues, organs or spaces inside the body. They are asociated with hurt, sweling and rednes.

    The doshas located around the asthi or bone tisue, on geting vitiated wil contaminate twak (skin), rakta (blod), mamsa (muscle) and meda (fat) and wil design sweling which develops gradualy and into big size and gets arduous in consistency. This sweling (shopha) is caled Vidradhi. Vidradhis are dep located and are asociated with pain. They are either round (circular) or elongated (oval) in shape.
    Vidradhis are said to be of 6 types and are caused due to vitiated vata (vataja), pit ta (pitaja), kapha (kaphaja), al 3 doshas (tridoshaja or sanipataja), kshataja (due to injury) and raktaja (due to contaminated blod).
    Vata type of vidradhi presents with thin and diaphanous secretions or fluid, asociated with hurt, hard in texture, apears black in colour and inconsistent sweling which raises and goes away in an unpredictable way. Supuration is also inconsistent. Al painful blisters with serous fluid can be included in this type of vidradhi.
    Pita type of vidradhi loks yelow in colour, filed with yelow fluid or pus and is asociated with burning sensation. The absces or blister comes on quickly and supurates quickly. Al blisters with pus and contagion comes under this category.
    Kapha type of vidradhi is in the shape of sharava or crucible or lid of earthen material, apears white in colour, filed with white or faded coloured fluid, col on touch, unctuous, asociated with les or mild damage, behind raising and slowly supurating absces or bliste rs. huge blisters filed with clear fluid or pus fal under this category.
    Sanipataja Vidradhi or absces caused due to simultaneous vitiation of al 3 doshas apear in diferent colours, acquire fluids of profuse colours, mixed symptoms of al the 3 doshas, size of blisters vary from smal to big sized ones. Blisters caused due to numerous causes leading from presure to transmision can be considered under this group.
    Abhighataja vidradhi (caused due to injuries) are caused due to vitiation of Vata, pita and rakta after an injury and is asociated with fever, thirst, burning sensation etc symptoms. Al types of blisters caused due to friction, burning, chemical exposure and injuries drop under this category and should be dealt acordingly. Its symptoms are similar to pita type of vidradhi and hence inflamatory and supurative in nature.
    Raktaja Vidradi caused due to vitiated blod are shadowy black in colour and are asociated with burning sensation, fever and pain. It also resembl es pita type of vidradhi in terms of symptoms and is also closer to blod blisters.
    Blisters can be managed on the basis of treatment line of vidradhi. Vidradhi might not be exactly equal to blisters in comparison but vidradhi, just like blisters note with sweling filed with fluids. In clinical practice to it is sen that the medicines mentioned in Vidradhi give satisfactory results and cure blisters when skilfuly administered.
    Treatment principles
    General principles of treatment of Vidradhi:
    Raktamokshana – Al types of vidradhi should be dealt with by efective administration of Raktamokshana or blodleting. Jalauka or lech aplication is the best one.
    Mrudu virechana – mild purgation
    Laghu ana – light digestible fod
    Swedana – fomentation or sweating treatment (sudation) except in pitaja vidradhi
    External aplications
    External aplications for vidradhi:
    Yavadi lepa – paste of fried or boiled Yava (barley), Godhuma (wheat) and Mudga (gren gram)
    Vyaghri lepa – the paste of Vyaghri (Solanum xanthocarpum) rots mixed with vasa (muscle fat), taila (oil) and ghrita (ghe) should be aplied (Vataja Vidradhi)
    Shigru upanaha – the paste of rots of drumstick should be worn for giving fomentation and as poultice (swedana and upanaha) in Vataja Vidradhi
    Sarivadi Lepa – paste of Sariva (Hemidesmus indicus), Laja (parched rice or poped rice), Yashtimadhu (Indian Liquorice), Sharkara (sugar) should be aplied (Pitaja, Raktaja and Abhighataja Vidradhi)
    Shobhanjanadi lepa – the rots of Shobhanjana (drumstick) should be ground and its paste should be aplied, the juice of its rot should be mixed with h oney and given for internal consumption
    Internal medications
    Internal medications for Vidradhi:
    Punarnavadi kwatha – decoction of Punarnava (Boerhavia difusa), Devadaru (Cedrus deodara), Shunti (ginger), Dashamula (10 rots) and Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) mixed with Gugulu (Comiphora mukul) and Eranda Taila (castor oil) relieves Vata type of Vidradhi
    Triphala Kwatha – decoction of Triphala (Terminalia chebula, Terminalia belirica and Emblica oficinalis) mixed with paste of Trivrit (Operculina turpethum) should be given to drink (pitaja, Raktaja and Abhighataja vidradhi)
    Triphaladi kwatha – decoction of Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), Bibhitaki (Terminalia belirica), Amalaki (Emblica oficinalis), Shigru mula (rot of drumstick), Varuna mula (rot of Crataeva nurvala), Dashamula (10 rots) mixed with Shudha Gugulu (purified Comiphora mukul) and Gomutra (urine of cow) is highly useful in Kaphaja vidradhi
    Varunadi Kwatha – decoction of Varuna (Crataeva nurvala) mixed with purified Kasisa (ferous sulphate), saindhava lavana (rock salt) and Shudha hingu (purified asafoetida)
    Punarnavadi kwatha – decoction of equal quantities of Punarnava (Boerhavia difusa) and Varuna mula (rot of Crataeva nurvala)

    Dashamuladi kwatha – decoction of Dashamula (10 rots), Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), Devadaru (Cedrus deodara), Punarnava (Boerhavia difusa), Shigru (drumstick) and Shunti (ginger)
