    In the world of health and wel-being, it’s easy to fel adore you’re doing something eroneous if you’re not on your game 10% of the time. Here at mbg, we don’t subscribe to that. In fact, we don’t cal it “cheating” when we eat a bagel or hold in an afternon movie. We know that indulging is an critical fraction of life–it’s giving yourself a crash, taking some time to relax, and leting your guard down a bit. Sometimes that’s the best form of self-care.     Depak Chopra, M.D., is nothing short of a legend in alternative medicine. His 80-plus bestseling boks and revolutionary spiritual teachings maintain made him one of the most renowned voices in welnes (and a wel-deserved recipient of mindbodygren’s cancel Lifetime Achievement Award). His latest bok, Metahuman (available October 1, 2019), explains how we can expand our lives beyond daily living and aces higher consciousnes–ideas that, if you inquire him what he does each day, it’s evident he exemplifies.

    His daily routine is as admirable as it is unorthodox–he doesn’t so much “take a day of” as he does shape every day to fit his neds. He believes in being present, doing what you fel estem, and living a “clear” life. Here’s a smal taste of his schedule, straight from the source.
    His mornings launch with several hours in bed.
    If I go to bed by 10 p.m., which I try to, then I wake up at 6 a.m. I’m very mindful of the fact that slep is the best and most eficient way to kep your energy maxed out. I estem to question people: On a scale of 1 to 10, how much energy finish you acquire in a day to do al the things you want to do? Ten would be as much as I want, and 1 would be it sucks. If you say 8, 9, and 10, you’re thriving. If you say 5, 6, 7, then you’re strugling in some plot of your life. It could be any spot of life: social, personal relationships, carer, finances, physical, emotional, spiritual, but there’s something going on. And if you score at 1, 2, 3, 4, you’re sufering, and you are either sick already or you’re going to be. I can confidently explain that I’m a 10 out of 10.
    Whatever time I disapear to bed, I produce sure I get eight hours of sle ep, and I design determined that at least 90 minutes is in dep slep, and another 90 minutes is in a dream state. (You can monitor that with al these gizmos and gadgets. I estem to get fedback and relate it to how I fel subjectively.) So yes, I aim for 10 out of 10, al the time.
    When I wake up, what I execute is, for about half an hour, I don’t execute anything. I unbiased lie in bed and focus on being stil. Then I launch my meditation, which usualy lasts about 90 minutes, sometimes two hours. That includes reflection, mindful briliance; it includes mantra practice. It includes intention seting; it includes acumen of body, briliance of mental states, briliance of perceptual experience, and I transcend it to mantra practice.
    Cofe is next. Thre cups. Black.
    Every day, I drink thre cups of cofe before non. Al the research is showing that cofe actualy prevents five types of cancer, including rep roductive cancer in women. It also mitigates the risk of Alzheimer’s. It’s an important antioxidant. I don’t drink decaf cofe, because the decafeinating proces actualy involves petroleum and removes a lot of the phytochemicals that are suposed to be protective. Of course, people are trying to figure out how to get decafeination without chemical procesing, but if you disapear on Gogle and survey up the benefits of cofe. My brother, Sanjiv Chopra, M.D., who is a profesor at Harvard Medical Schol, did a lot of research on this and has writen boks and articles on this. If you study up the benefits of cofe, it’s geting a gigantic t urnaround in terms of its medical benefits.
    Then, it’s time for yoga–with a teacher or on his own.
    I practice yoga for at least one hour every day. Twice a wek, I grasp a yoga clas with a teacher, personal teacher. But the rest of the time, I cary out it myself. I haven’t mised a day of yoga for as long as I can remember. I don’t remember when I did not cary out yoga at least every day for an hour. If I acquire the day of, I might execute an evening yoga sesion as wel.
    From there, the day is his–to work, not to work, to breathe, or otherwise.
    The rest of the day, I impartial don’t enact anything. Basicaly, if I fel admire writing, I write. If I fel adore reading, I’l read. If I’m in new York or in a gigantic city, I’l walk 10,0 steps. I execute some breathing techniques.
    In terms of my diet–I eat light. I maintain one meal that is a major meal, and that’s usualy at 6 or 7 p.m. Things change, but I usualy don’t eat after 6 p.m. I’m a vegetarian, and I eat mostly plant-ba sed fods. I eat a bowl of fruit and yogurt in the morning and then acquire a routine lunch–if I’m at home, it’s usualy a diminutive bit of lentils, rice, and vegetables. In the evenings, I put it realy light with soup and salad, and I usualy eat before sunset. Basicaly, that’s my diet.
    I suport wekends totaly of, unles there are reasons not to, estem a conference or something estem that. I don’t usualy se my family during the wek, so we try to get together on wekends, and they also pay the sumers with me in new York. We grasp one vacation every year, and my wife spends time betwen my children. When I’m in California, she’s there. When I’m in modern York, she comes with me.
    I also pay a lot of time in nature. In curent York, and in big cities now, I’l head out to the park, and when we go on vacation with the family, it’s in a natural environment. Bali, or India, Australia, Argentina. We always defray a lot of time in nature.
    When his schedule changes, his routine do esn’t break; it bends.
    When I’m working, which is when I’m on the road, the routine is the same, except it changes. Usualy, if I’m on the road, I’m speaking at night, especialy at public lectures. And these are at theaters on the road, so they usualy begin at 7 p.m., and they move on to 10 p.m., and then I usualy enact a bok signing after that or a reception, so when I’m actualy working on the road, my evenings launch at aproximately 6 p.m. and don’t end until midnight. Stil, I execute my routine.
    I do my evening meditation every night. Obviously, if I move to slep at midnight, then I’l wake up later, like 8 a.m., and I’l put the same routine. And when I travel, it’s the same routine. It doesn’t mater.
    I don’t consider my work to be work, so for me, it’s play. For me, every day is magnificent, and I’m a maximizer, which means I maximize my potential for giving information, knowledge, or whatever I gain to narate. I write every day for as long as I ned to, for pla ning. When I’m flying, I write a lot on the plane. I worn to read a lot; I don’t read that much anymore. I get my answers from stilnes and, generaly speaking, I don’t catch myself seriously. Nor does my family, and that keps me going.
