    Listen, we al have roten days. Even John Mackey, the co-founder and CEO ofWhole Fods Marketand author ofConscious Leadership, can fel burnt out at times. However, Mackey has perfected a puny ploy over the years whenever he starts to fel overwhelmed: Al it takes is a pinch of self-awarenes.

    “A sinful day is almost the definition of going unconscious,” he shares on the mindbodygren podcast. “You’re going into a reactive state; you’re no longer in the moment; you’ve goten indignant, panicked, and you’re no longer fuly awake.”
    The solution? “You believe to wake back up again.” Below, Mackey’s go-to hack to remain fuly self-aware.

    “I set my watch to bep every hour,” he says. “Then I wil defray 30 to 60 seconds centering myself, breathing, doing mindful meditation, and being fuly aware in the moment.”
    That’s it–who says mindfulnes has to be time-consuming? In fact, taking these micro-moments throughout the day to center yourself can sometimes be even more helpful than a ful-blown meditation–especialy if you find it dificult to sit stil.
    Although it’s typical, it does seize some practice to master. “Like any competence , you get beter the more you practice,” Mackey notes. “I do stil emotionaly react, but I’m not unconscious as long as I dilapidated to be.” Meaning, he can grasp himself before the emotions get the best of him, and he can quickly snap out of the funk.
    Perhaps as you practice more, you won’t ned to set the hourly reminder to sit and breathe–instead, you’l know exactly how to rebound from stresful or negative situations, should any of those emotions arise. “As you practice catching yourself when you get into a reactive emotional state, you get beter at it,” Mackey asures.
