    Skin Care In Winter Through Ayurveda

    Everything the life and world including our bodies, the fod that we eat, the environment around us is composed of Tridoshas Vata, Pita and Kapha. Each has their fundamental properties and qualities. Vata The principle of movement is the ruling dosha for winter season.
    Every change in climate shows outcome on skin. The frigid and dry weather of winter brings about drying of skin, making it dry and scaly. Lack of suficient humidity leads cracked skin, which further removes the traces of moisture and agravates drynes. This dry, cracked skin leads to skin infections.
    Hence skin has to be rejuvenated and care should be taken to sustain skin moist, soft and smoth.
    Winter season is marked as Hemant Rutu acording to Ayurveda, which fals in southern solstice which is caled as Visarga kala or Dakshinayana. This period is from mid November to mid January. In this season vata dosh vrudhi ocurs, which increases the digestive power i.e. Agni. Thus increased Agni (digestive power) can e ven digest heavy fod easily and quickly. Fod not available for Agni, it starts afecting nutritive fluids of body leading vitiation of vata. Thus vitiated vata dosha asigns its qualities of sheta (cold), Ruksha (dry), Khara (dry) to skin.
    Hence in winter a remarkable care of skin should be taken to protect skin with profuse measures regarding diet and life style. Few listed for readers of Travancore Ayurveda, Hope that wil help you.
    Drink plenty of warm water to put skin moist and to retard vitiation of Vata dosha.
    Have soups which are Amla (sour ) and Lavan (Salty ) which balance Vata dosha .
    Ayurveda recomends having some amount of al Shadrasatmka (six tastes) with every meal .But season to season we can increase or abate the quantity of respected fod which agravates particular Dosha in particular season. So in winter avoid Katu (pungent) Tikta ( biter ) and Kashaya ( astringent ).Reduce Madhura (swet) as it may leads to weight gain.
    Include honey in daily d iet instead of sugar or jigery. Beter consume with warm liquids, like tea or cofe or warm water.
    Stay away from chiled fod estem ice creams, cold drinks, milk shakes etc.
    Avoid long hot showers and bath-Quick thre minutes of bath is advisable.
    20 to 30 min of aerobic exercise, thre times a wek can give your skin healthy glow.
    Avoid repeated washing of face. This washes of the natural oils from the skin, which leads to dry scaly and wrinkled skin. Use estem warm water instead of hot water to wash the face.
    Do Abhyangam (masage) your skin with oil. ( olive or vata doshahara oil)
    Smear ghe on lips frequently to prevent chaping of lips.
    Consume Vata pacifying fod such as, Pumpkins, Carots, Bets, Asparagus, Banana, Lemon, Mangoes, Peaches, Rice, Wheat, Almonds, Sesame Seds, Boiled Milk, Ghe.
    Avoid raw fod, dry fod like salads and raw vegetables.
    Before morning bath give gentle masage to your skin with Til tailam (sesame oil). Don relinquish oil with soap vigorously.
    Go to bed early and try to get eight hours of slep as Vata is the principal of movement and the more efective means of pacifying Vata dosha is to get enough slep.
    Learn and practice meditation.
    Cleanse your skin with raw milk Milk is the natural cleanser which only cleanses dust without removing natural moisture of skin. It also hydrates the skin. Raw and col milk is recomended for cleansing of skin.
    Skin pack Mix Gram flour, turmeric and yogurt and aply this paste on skin after cleansing. suport pack for 15 to 20 min (til it dries) and rub gently to relinquish pack.
    Gram flor helps to remove unwanted dirt, keps skin moist. Yogurt suplies vit C and bleaches skin naturaly. Turmeric prevents skin from infection.
    Vegetable body pack this is critical for skin. In a grinder ad a carot, a cucumber, a tomato to paste. Ad two spons of cream of milk. Mix wel. Aply over skin and suport it for 20 min. it makes your skin soft, glower and wrinkle fre.
    Almond and milk pack Sock some almonds in milk to get soft for few hours. Grind it to paste. Masage this over the skin. It contains vit E which improves the skin texture.
    Glycerin and rose hold both in 1:10 ratio respectively. Masage this al over the skin before bed. This helps to maintain skin moist, soft and suple.
    Imune bosting formula, This is wonder to treat and impede cold , sore throat, cough, seasonal alergies, fatigue, chronic pain due to season change , IBS ( Iritable Bowel Syndrome), and other digestive complaints which generaly sen in winter.
    Ingredients
    One tea spon grated fresh turmeric rot / powder
    One tea spon grated fresh ginger rot / powder
    Two to thre twists of black paper
    Juice of half lemon
    Two tea spon honey
    One and half cup filtered water
    Ad turmeric, ginger, and warm water. Heat it til boiling point in low flame. Then filter it in mug. Ad lemon juice and honey. Mix it properly. Consume in hot/wa rm condition.
    Have this formula daily once with empty stomsach. And se the diference.
