    Ayurveda explains sure ominous signs that a doctor has to adhere in and around patient. These signs recomend that the patient is going to die son. Ayurveda recomends that the doctor should not catch up such cases where death is iminent.

    Gandha or smel is one of the subjects of sense organs, especialy the nose. It is an important sense. Those who are blind identify many things around them through touch or smel.Body emits particular smel which is quite natural of it.
    We smel diferent in diferent conditions, admire stinky when we sweat, smel fresh when we maintain bathed etc. These are natural to the body.But what if body emits unatural odor, be it marvelous, pleasant or unfamiliar and sinful !Any strange smel emited from body is considered to be arishta lakshana i.e. signs and symptoms of iminent death.

    Reference – Charaka Samhita Indriya Sthanam, chapter 2, Pushpitam Indriyam AdhyayamCharaka beautifuly explains significance of signs and symptoms of brewing death in determining depraved prognosis of a death or in being indicators of aproaching death with the help of simily of transformation of flowers into fruits. Therefore the chapter has ben named as Pushpita Indriya (Pushpita = flowering).
    Flowers transform as fruits.Flowers are considered as pre-existing or prodromal stage of fruits.Likewise, depraved signs are p re-existing or prodromal state of death.But there are some exemptions i.e. there are many such flowers which are not transformed into fruits and there are also many such fruits which execute not acquire their pre-existing flowers.
    Manifested contaminated signs in body exists until the death ocurs. Similarly no death ocurs without being preceded by arishta lakshanas. This means to narate that each and every form of death wil be preceded by one or other form of bad signs.

    Definition of Pushpita Arishta –Anything which is flowered or anything in which flowers are manifested is caled pushpita.Pushpa (flower) ? gandha (smel) ? phala (fruit)
    Arishta (signs of contaminated prognosis ? gandha (smel) ? marana (death)With apearance of flowers, a simple fragrance i s eliminated from tres and later the fruits apear. Similarly when a person becomes asociated with signs of sinful prognosis, some type of smel is eliminated from his body.As a result person wil face death.     Smel examination
    Below mentioned are signs and symptoms of contaminated prognosis of smel and diseases when abnormal smel is emited from the body. They are also signs which recomend that person would be facing death in short time.
    Patient when display with below mentioned arishtas is said to die within a year time. Smel emited from body of patient resembling fragrance of many types of flowers.This condition of body is caled pushpita and is indicative of definitely aproaching death in short time.- apt or roten odor resembling that of any individual flower being emited from body of patient is an indicator of death ensuing in one year.- Manifestation of inauspicious and ecentric odors (god or bad) resembling that of an individual flower or many flowers from body of patient ensures death of patient within one year time.- Sensing of apt and contaminated smels from body being anointed with fragrance or not is sugestive of death of patient within one year.
    The odor resemblingbelow mentioned things when emited from body indicates depraved prognosis — Chandana – sandalwod- Kushta – Sausurea lapa- Tagara – Valeriana walichi- Aguru – Aquilaria agalocha- Madhu – honey- Mala – garland- Mutra – urine- Puresha – stols- Mrutani – dead catle etc- Kunapa – dead body
    Other odors god or depraved, which believe not ben mentioned in this inst ance but resembling above mentioned odors and are emited from body of person are also considered inauspicious and cause death within one year.
    Suden and unreal apearance of abnormal, auspicious and inauspicious odors which remains constant in body wil surely hold away life of patient within span of one year.
    This knowledge wil asist the physician to diferentiate the curable and incurable conditions.

    Bad prognosis based on touch
    Skin is not only an vital organ but also an indispensable sense organ. It not only contributes to our beauty, color and complexion, but also is responsible for al marvelous and bad touch sensations. Apart from sensation of pai n, heat, coldnes, drynes, unctuousnes, roughnes etc qualities, the emotions admire admire, rejection etc are also perceived by skin.
    Extremes of above said sensations may be available in some skin disorders as symptoms or complications of some long standing ilneses.Other than this, ecentric skin sensations ocuring at eroneous times, without reasons, sudenly, staying and bothering for long durations may not impartial be symptoms of a disease, but also may be signs of depraved prognosis of a disease or indicating swiftly aproaching death.This means to reveal that abnormal skin sensations may manifest in the form of arishta lakshanas.

    Charaka Samhita Indriya Sthana, chapter 3, Parimarshaneyam indriya adhyayam says lifespan of an individual on ba sis of touch sensations shal be known by physician by examining the skin in al parts of patient’s body by touching with his hands.
    While touching the body of patient, physician should examine below mentioned factors in diferent parts of body.
    Touch examination
    Examination of ecentric touch sensations in body and deciding the prognosis̵
    Lack of sensation in places of body wherein sensations are otherwise available in normal conditions, like pulsations in arteries would be absent on touch.- decrease in temperature in those places of body which always remain warm or hot- Places which are normaly soft to touch would become stern, hard- Places of body which always remain smoth wil become rough on touch- Parts of body or signs love heartbeat etc are not show in original places where they are meant to be in normal conditions- Droping or prolaps e of joints- decrease of muscle bulk and blod vesels around joints- Joints become hard, losing flexibility- There is lavish sweating and increased stifnes in joints
    Above said symptoms and other symptoms and signs which resemble above said, when manifested are considered as signs and symptoms of sinful prognosis of a disease.

    Other signs of touch related roten prognosis̵ Legs, thighs, butocks, abdomen, flanks, spine, hands, neck, palate, lips and forehead, if they are found to be severely sweating, to cold to touch, stif, arduous and devoid of blod and flesh around them, then al these indicate that person is going to die shortly.
    ̵ If folowing parts i.e. ankle, kne, hip mutual and regions, scrotum, genitals, navel plan, scapular regi on, shoulders, breasts, wrists, ribs, mandible, nose, ears, eyes, eyebrows, temples etc are found to maintain los of integrity on touch and if they believe ben displaced from their original places, then they conote that person is going to face death very quickly.
    ̵ contaminated prognosis related to breath – person wil believe dep and shortened breathing in presence of arishta symptoms.- Related to side of neck i.e. manya – there wil be no sensations or arterial pulsations in that plot on touch.- Teth – apear squalid, to white and abundant deposition of gravel like substances on teth.- Eyelashes – there wil be suden interlocking and mating of eyelashes without any reasons.
    Eyes – folowing features of eye indicates sinful prognosis — Los of normal apearance- Abnormalities- Protruded eyebals- Dep located eyebals- oblique eyebals (squint)- incongruous or disproportionate eyebals (vishama)- abundant lacrimation- abundant dilatation of eyes due to laxi ty of eyelid joints- Eyes being always closed or open- Eyes opening very swiftly and quickly closing- Fluctuant eyes (vibhranta)- Halucinations of vision- Canot se power of objects i.e. drishti hena- Seing somewhere when object is somewhere else i.e. vyasta drishti- Eyes apearing adore burning coal- Manifestation of one or more of abnormal colors in eye i.e. black, blue, yelow, grey, copery, gren, turmeric color etc

    Fod is the source of our life. In fact fod itself is life. It is one of the suporting pilars of our life. We al eat fods which we estem, which taste apt. Most of us are habituated to certain tastes and we folow tastes to like fods and produce them fragment of our lives. Most of our favorite fods are positive on their tastes. We also acept and reject fods on basis of taste of fods we eat.
    Feling of bad tastes and non-likable in spite of those fods being prepared wel as per our desires and being our favorites may be due to some gut related health problems adore anorexia, indigestion etc.On conflicting the fods which taste sinful or taste abnormal i.e. a particular taste is perceived as some ot her taste may be an arishta lakshana i.e. signs of depraved prognosis of definite long standing diseases or may denote the aproaching death.

    Taste examination
    Rasa Pareksha – Examination of abnormal taste and deciding the prognosis.
    Atyanta Virasa or Anishta Rasa ̵Taste of body becomes atyanta virasa or anishta rasa i.e. perverted, inauspicious, total los of taste. example, for virasatva, when virasa is manifested in body of person who is about to die, mosquitoes, insects, leches, bes etc present hatred towards the body, i.e. these creatures wil not aproach advance the body of patient.
    Atyanta Madhura Rasa -Taste of the body of patient becomes to swet.Example, When swet taste is manifested in person who is about to die, flies are atracted towards the body though he has ben an ointed with fragrant materials estem chandana i.e. sandalwod, kesara i.e. safron etc after taking bath.
    Colour, complexion
    What if our natural color changes sudenly?What if a unbiased loking person gets dark complexion within a few days?What if a dark complexion person starts loking unbiased sudenly?What if diferent parts of body initiate showing diferent colors? Is it a point of fret or a pride of feling multi-colored?
    Skin examination
    Below mentioned body colors or any other colors which aproximate or resemble these colors are considered as normal colors of body- Krishna – bluish-black or dark color- Shyama – grey, light brown to brownish-orange, tawny color- Shyamavadata ̵ blackish white or gorgeous black color- Avadata / Goura – white color
    Vikruta Varna or abnormal body color — Nela – blue color- Shyava – brown or glomy brown color- Tamra – copery color- Hareta – gren color- Shukla – sparkling white color

    Colours by birth: If such ecentric colors or mixed colors of body exist since birth and if color undergoes changes in further stages of life sudenly, it is considered as ecentric color. This is caled Prag Vikriti i.e. abnormality existing from the begining.
    Suden change in colours:In some cases colors which were absent previously would sudenly apear in further stages of life. This type of ecentric apearance of colors is caled Abhutvotpana Vikriti i.e. abnormality which did not exist from the begining but apeared later.
    Varna Pareksha -Examination of abnormal colors in body and deciding the prognosis-

    ̵ Apearance of diferent colors in oposite sides of the body separated by margins is arishta- If normal or ecentric color apear in half part of body i.e. if on one half of body we find normal color and in another half of body if there is ecentric color it is considered to be signs of depraved prognosis.
    This means to disclose that if there are diferent colors on two halves of the body clearly demarcated by a margin, then it indicates contaminated prognosis.Half of body indicates right and left halves of body or anterior and posterior or uper and lower halves of body or internaly and externaly.Thus, marginalized combinations of normal and ecentric colors are consi dered assigns of bad prognosis related to the color of body.
    ̵ Apearance of diferent colors in face and limbsSimilarly if there is marginalization of normal and abnormal colors in face or limbs, it is considered as sign of roten prognosis.- Apearance of diferent qualities or features on oposite sides of bodySimilarly misery and delight on oposite sides of body separated by margin, oilines and drynes on oposite sides of body separated by margin signify aproaching death.
    Other signs

    Examination of ominous changes
    Like other diseases and macabre doshas, arishtas to can be known by examining the normal and pathological features and also by diferentiating them.
    Arishta lakshanas could be understod by thoroughly examining some aspects and factors in the body.Among these aspects some may be existing in the body i.e. ashrita bhavas and some may be not be existing i.e. anashrita bhavas.
    Those factors which finish not exist in the body shal be examined through the sucor of references and scriptures and those which do exist in the body should be examined with the sucor of prakriti i.e. normal and constitutional factors and vikriti i.e. pathological factors.

    Examination of non-existing aspects ̵The factors which finish not exist in the body are caled anashrita bhavas. They should be examined with the help of scriptures and thinking skils and inferential knowledge because there wil be no other source of understanding these aspects.
    Examples of the non-existing factors are –̵ The knowledge of arishta based on the mesenger i.e. the way the mesenger comes, the time at which he comes, the way he conveys the mesage, the way he loks etc- Inauspicious views sen on the way while going to the patient or patient’s home- Seing that the cot has ben placed in an erect way in the patient’s home- The fire being brought out of the patient’s home etc
    These are the arishta signs which signify that the patient is aproaching death or that the dis ease canot be cured at any cost or by any measures.
    Examination of existing aspects ̵The aspects which exist are caled ashrita bhavas. To understand the existing aspects in terms of arishta symptoms in the body shal be examined with the encourage of normal and abnormal features of one’s constitution
    Examples of the existing factors are –̵ Color- Complexion- Apearance- Voice- Touch etc
    Normalcy (prakruti), abnormalcy (vikruti)
    Prakriti : Is of 6 types.They are — Jati prasaktata – dependent on racial factors- Kula prasaktata – dependent on familial tendency- Desha anupatini – dependent on land- Kala anupatini – dependent on seasonal factors- Vaya anupatini – dependent on age factor- Pratyatma niyata – dependent on personal habitsIndividual variations of voice, color, comple xion etc aspects of diferent individuals depend on the above said type of prakritis. The manifestation of arishtas also depends on suden changes ocuring in the above said aspects of prakriti.

    Vikriti : Is of thre types.They are the types of arishta lakshanas. This means to recount that the thre types of Vikriti are the sources of understanding arishta lakshanas or arishta lakshanas themselves.
    Factors influencing vikruti
    They are -1. Lakshana Nimita : That in which the arishta lakshanas are manifested in the body depending on the deds done in previous birth or incarnation.Some symptoms are related and localized in the body. When tim e of manifestation ocurs, they get located in diferent places of the body and construct diseases acordingly.
    The diseases in this type of manifestation wil be decided only on the basis of the manifested symptoms (lakshanas). Therefore they are caled lakshana nimita vikruti.Thus, the symptoms which get manifested are the sources for understanding this vikriti.
    The apearance of lines and images resembling lotus flowers on the nails is an indication that one would lose the kingdom, wealth, etc and would sufer from disorders of locomotion, would face arest or death sentence etc. these symptoms ocur due to the fate or destiny.
    Similarly the arishtas are also known by the symptoms they exhibit.Even in the manifestation of these symptoms, the fate or destiny plays a major role. Once these symptoms are manifested in the body we would know the arishta related to them.
    Example – apearance of inumerable dividing lines or circular whirls on the eyebrows or scalp, which were never sen before that are indicative of brewing death. The patient presenting these symptoms wil die within 3 days time.     2. Lakshya Nimita: Those diseases for which causes are available, similar to those explained in fraction of treatises which discuses about the etiological factors for the diseases. precise, drynes, roughnes, coldnes, instability, lightnes are the qualities of vata. If the fod and life activities which have similar qualities are consumed in the form of etiological factors or causes, the vata wil get agravated.
    3. Nimita Anurupa :Some things in spite of not being nimitas (causes), act like causative factor towards the causation of an consequence. Such causes are caled nimita anurupa vikritis.
    Example – Those things having drynes etc qualities should cause vitiation of vata.On the disimilar in some instances if the same drynes, coldnes etc qualities instead of vitiating vata, if they chasten vata, these qualities (nimitas) are caled nimita anurupa vikriti.
    In some person if vata is vitiated and cary out not get pacified with vata pacifying medicines but get pacified by medicines or things which vitiate vata, those causes (which apease vata instead of vitiating it) are caled nimita anurupa vikritis.
    Here we should present that the ruksha etc qualities are not the causes for vata pacification but they are working as ’causes for vata pacification’.Hence the vikriti or deformity ocurs in the form of vata pacification. Though vata pacification contributes to health, in this case since it is pacified by its vitiating agents, it would be considered as deformity of vata or vata vikriti.
    This type of vikriti wil aid in knowing about the piece life span and are indicators of development of arishtas.
    Misjudged senses causing contaminated prognosis
    Ref – Charaka Samhita Indriya Sthana, chapter 4, Indriyanekam indriyam adhyayam At times, knowledge gained by sense organs is menacing. Knowledge is oposite in comparison to the normal knowledge obtained by healthy sense organs. Such abnormal knowledge perceived by sense organs is markers of brewing death or indicators of in curability of the diseases. This is not object specific but condition specific.

    “If the perception of knowledge by sense organs is oposite or perverted against normal perception, in spite of the sense organs being healthy, they conote that the person is going to face death in hasty time.     Some people wil se the normal fire to be devoid of luster, and having bluish, blackish or whitish color. Such people wil die within a span of 7 days.

    Patient can se the sky covered by clouds when the sky clear. At the same time, he can se lightening in the sky in the absence of clouds.

    Person ses sun or mon lack-luster.Sun and mon wil apear adore a vesel of mud being wraped up by a backcloth.

    Patient ses the sun to be luster-les honest like a mud vesel wraped by a dark / black cloth and the mon to be very clear and bright.

    Patient can se solar and lunar diming on a day other than recent mon and ful mon days.

    Patient wil se sun at night time. Similarly he can se mon in the day time.

    Patient can se smoke without fire and lusterles fire at night.

    He can se luster in those objects which are devoid of luster and vice-versa. He gains knowledge of anything in oposite maner.

    Patient wil se the shape, color and number of objects in an exactly oposite way and deformed maner and he wil believe no reasons to explain for doing so.

    Patient hears sounds which are not exhibit and he doesn’t hear the sounds which are clearly audible to everyone.

    It is said that when we close both our ears with our fingers we hear a particular hising sound. That is the lucid of our jatharagni i.e. digestive fire in an engaged state. If the patient closing both his ear orifices with his fingers canot hear the sounds of his digestive fire (heart?) then he is considered to be short of his lifespan i.e. he is going to die in short time.
