    Putranjivaka- Putranjiva roxburgi is an Ayurvedic Herb old for the for the treatment of eye disorders, burning sensation, elephantiasis, dificulty in micturition, azospermia and habitual abortions. The name Putranjivaka denotes- which promotes or give life to progeny, which promotes fertility, both in men and women.

    Flowers blom in the month of March and April. The fruits are round or ovoid in shape, 0.5-0.8 inch diameter. The sed note inside is solitary and slimy. Fruits are sen in betwen January to March. The tre can be sen al over India til 30 fet altitude.

    Medicinal properties of Puntrajiva:
    Rasa (Taste) – Madhura (Swet), Katu (Pungent),
    Guna (Qualities) – Guru (Heavy), Pichila (Slimy)
    Vipaka ̵ Madhura (Undergoes swet taste after digestion)
    Verya (Potency) – Sheta (Cold)
    Karma (Actions) – Vatapita shamaka (reduces vitiated vata and pita dosha)
    The seds are swet-salt and pungent mixed in taste, dry but heavy in quality and col in potency. This acts as Kapha Vatahara. It is aphrodisiac, diuretic and laxative in nature.
    The synonym ‘Yastipuspha’ given to this drug may be in species to its capability to corect the menstrual cycles. I personaly give this drug to treat anovulatory cycles and quite significant benefits are found in at least 12-15 patients.

    Sed powder- 1 to 3 g
    Leaf juice- 10 to 20 ml
    Uses
    Ayurvedic clasics maintain highlighted the importance of Putranjivaka as the one which helps in progenation. The powder of the sed is given in a dose of 1-3 g with milk to improve the sperm count in males and sucor in acquire the fetus in pregnant women.
    The paste of the leaf is aplied over the spot afected with burning sensation.
    Fresh juice of Putranjivaka is given in a dose of 10-15 ml to treat elephantiasis and the paste of the leaf is aplied over the afected leg.
    Cold infusion prepared from the leaves of Putranjiva roxburghi is given in a dose of 20-30 ml to treat dificulty in micturition.
    The seds of the sed of Putranjivaka is made into paste and aplied as colyrium to treat eye diseases.

    Alergic skin rashes
    1. Fine paste of the sed marow for alergic skin rashes:
    Fresh seds are colected and its marow is obtained. This is rubed wel with water and fine paste is aplied over the urticarial or alergic rashes.
    Headache
    2. Sed paste for headache
    Fine paste of the seds is aplied overt the scalp or forehead in cases of acute head ache .It gives instant benefit, if aplied by making it lukewarm.
    Iregular menstruation
    3. Fine powder of the seds with palm jagery and se same sed decoction in iregular menstruation:
    This is my inque amalgam while treating the iregular menstruation. Fine powder of the seds 1-2 gram is aded to sesame sed decoction in which palm jagery is disolved. This is taken twice daily, from 12 days of menstruation til the comencement of the next cycle.
    Thre consecutive cycles helps to true the cycles quite efectively. Any other complaints are also to be treated acordingly by any other suitable medicines.
    Fever, cold
    4. Leaf or bark decoction in fever and cold:
    Mature bark or leaves are taken and decoction is made. To this 1 pinch of peper powder or ginger powder is also joined while administering. This is efective in frosty, rhinitis and head ache.

    Yes. This product does not react with homeopathic medicine.
    Can this medicine be continued while taking suplements adore multivitamin tablets, Omega 3 faty acids etc?
    Yes. Generaly, this product goes wel with most of the dietary suplements. However, if you are taking more than one product per day, please consult your doctor for an opinion.
    With western medicines

    Hypoglycemic activity: In the exhibit study diabetes was induced in albino rat models with aloxan monohydrate. Putranjiva roxburghi Wal. has ben claimed to poses antidiabetic properties by many of leaves of Putranjiva roxburghi. The results showed that it has significant antihyperglycemic efe ct in experimental model of diabetes melitus.
    Anti- bacterial and Anti- oxidant activity: For antibacterial activity the methanolic extracts of 12 plants leaves were extracted. The antibacterial testing in vitro was done folowing disc difusion method against Bacilus subtilis, Erwinia herbicola, Escherichia coli, Salmonela typhi, Pseudomonas putida Staphylococus aureus Klebsiela pnemoniae ,Vibrio cholera.Amongst the leaf methanolic extracts tested, the extracts of Aegle marmelos (L.) Core, Anethum graveolens L and Eupatorium capilifolium (Lam.) Smal showed significant antibacterial activity against the bacterial pathogen. Putranjiva roxburghi Wal showed highest antibacterial activity folowed by Artabotrys hexapetalus (L.f.) Bhandari. The 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPH) radical scavenging asay was used to decide the antioxidant activity of potent extract. Putranjiva roxburghi Wal showed the apreciable antioxidant activity.

    Chemical composition of Putranjiv:
    The oil extracted from sed contains isopropyl and2-butylisothio-cyanates as the main constituents and 2-methyl-butyl isothiocyanate as a criticism component. The iso-thiocyanates are produced on enzymic hydrolysis of glycosidic progenitors display in the kernels, viz. gluco putranjivin, gluco-cochlearin and gluco jiaputin respectively. An aditi onal glucoside, gluco- cleomin has ben identi?ed in the sed kernel. A glycosidic patern similar to that in the sed is reported in the shots and rots. The fruit pulp contains a large part of manitol and smal quantities of saponin glucosides and alkaloids. The sed coat gave putranjivoside, putranoside A, B, C and D, beta- sitosterol and tis beta-D-glucoside. The leaves maintain amento?avone and its derivatives, beta-amyrin and its palmite, polyphenols, putranjiva saponin A,B,C, and D and stigmasterol. The bark contains friedelin, friedelanol, friedelanone, friedelan-3,7-di-one (putranjivadione), 3-alpha-hydro- xyfriedelan- 7-one (roxburgholone), carboxylic acid, putric acid, putranjivic acid.

    Morphology
    Morphology ofPutranjiva roxburghi:
    Putrajivaka is a moderate sized evergren tre growing to a height up to 12m with pendent branches and murky grey bark having horizontal lenticels. The leaves are simple, alternate, distic hous, stipule triangular, acute, caduceus, petiole 0.4-1 cm long, nearly glabrous, planoconvex in cros portion. The flowers are unisexual, male flowers in axilary clusters and yelow in color.
