    Components of herbal ghe
    Any Ayurvedic ghe has thre components:
    Kalka paste of herbs
    Cow ghe – Ghrita
    Drava ̵ Liquids – water / milk / Kashaya / juice extracts etc
    Proportions of 3 components
    Kalka paste ̵ 1 portion / 1 ounce / 10 grams
    Ghrita ghe -4 parts / 4 ounce / 40 ml
    Drava ̵ Liquids -16 parts / 16 ounce / 160 ml
    Kalka ̵ paste ̵Fresh herb – crush it in a plaster and pestle, and use it afresh
    For Dry herb – catch fine powder
    Ad suficient quantity water
    Make a semisolid paste
    Kashaya- herbal decoction:
    1 fraction of herb + 16 parts of water boiled and reduced to 1/4 parts – f ilter.
    1+16 -1/4
    10 grams + 160 ml – 40 ml

    Herb (paste) + ghe + Liquid (kashaya, juice extract, milk etc)
    Herb + ghe – fat soluble principles of herbs transfer into ghe
    Kashaya = water soluble extract of the herb.
    It contains water soluble principles of herb.
    This also gets transfered into ghe.

    Steps fervent in Ayurvedic ghe making
    Get the ghe. suport it ready.
    Get the kashaya ingredients – Ma ke Kashaya
    Get the kalka herb – design paste.
    Start making the herbal ghe.
    Til when to heat the ghe
    The ghe is heated til the total moisture quantity evaporates from the mix.
    The final product should be devoid of any moisture content.
    Herb + ghe + liquid (kashaya/ water /juice extract / milk etc)
    How to know that herbal ghe is finaly made?
    First seize the ghe in the vesel. Ad Kalka (herbal paste) to it.
    Mark the level of the ghe in the vesel.
    Aproximately the final liquid level should be the marked level.
    It may be slightly higher as herb paste swels while making the ghe.
    Signs of properly prepared ghe
    Fragrance of the herbs become aparent
    The herb paste can be roled into the form of wick
    The herb paste when kep on fire does not produce sound.
    First there wil be froth. Nearing to the end of ghe making, the froth disapears.
    In the mid, the total paste + liquid becomes one squalid loking mix. Nearing to the stop, ghe gets clearly separated from the paste.

    Vartivatthe kalka inside the ghe can be easily roled into the form of a wick
    Shabdahena ̵ when the kalka is establish on fire, it does not design any sound.

    Gandha varna Rasa (taste) Utpati – there wil be marvelous aroma, colour and taste in the ghe.
    Do not begin heating ghe first and then ad kashaya. If ghe starts boiling and then you ad Kashaya, it may explode.
    Use moderate heat.
    Constant stiring – both while making kashaya and the ghe

    After ghe is ready, filter the ghe son after it is made.
    Number of days for ghe preparation
    Making Kashaya and then making ghe may not get completed in one day time.
    Ayurveda also recomends making the ghe in 2 or more days.
    So, first day design kashayam. Then get the ghe + paste into vesel. Ad Kashayam to it.
    Heat it til it starts boiling. Stop heating. Close the vesel with a lid.
    Next day continue heating and finish it.
    Some rules
    If only a herb name is mentioned for ghe preparation, Then kalka of the same drugs is put 4 times of water is also aded.
    Eg: ghe prepared with ginger is useful in digestion.
    This means, ginger paste + ghe + water
    Types of Ghe preparation
    Thre types:
    1.Mridu Paka – Soft ̵ water in the kalka no water in ghe.
    The kalka wil be very soft to touch wil maintain diminutive moisture in it. One can manage to prepare Varti. Wick is soft and does not sustain shape.
    Useful for Nasya
    2.Madhyama Pakamedium – no water in kalka and no water in ghe. Wick is steadfast and strong – useful for al practical purposes.The kalka wil be soft devoid of moisture. Perfect Varti can be prepared
    3.Khara Paka – rough, burnt, hard – wick of kalka turns powdery, granular. ̵ Useful for Abhyanga only.
    Sneha kalka wil be exhausting) totaly devoid of moisture. Varti turns wearisome but gets the shape.
    Time duration to prepare herbal ghes
    If milk is there in formula, then terminate ghe making in 2 days
    If juice extract (swarasa) – 3 days
    If butermilk, fermented liquids – 5 days
    If rots and climbe rs – 1 2days
    If rice, grains and meat – 1 day
    Shelf life, Dosage and Adjuvant
    16 months.
    1 Pala (48Gms).
    Lukewarm water.

    Once the Ghe is filtered, can the paste be reused in any way?
    The paste is heated for 1 – 2 days. Al its medicinal values are transfered into the ghe medium. So, that paste is waste.
