Pravriti means an aproach or initiation taken towards doing an action. Pravriti Pariksha comprises examination of this initiation of action. It is the 9th factor to be examined as per Master Charaka’s ten factors to be examined i.e. dasha vidha parikshya bhavas.

    Definition of Pravriti
Any activity undertaken or any disposition shown towards acomplishing an action is caled pravriti. It is also caled kriya, karma, yatna or karyarambha.
So the action itself is not pravriti. But the atempts, initiation or inclination towards acomplishing the same is caled pravriti. The synonym karyarambha explains it al. It means begining an action.

    Examination of Pravriti
In the field of medicine, ‘to launch t he treatment proces’ is itself caled pravriti. Here the physician shows an inclination and interest towards providing treatment. Initiation of action in the form of treatment shows the dedication of the physician in the proces. It is not only the physician but the involvement of al the other 3 limbs i.e. patient, medicine and atendants which determines the suces of treatment. Therefore the first initiation towards treatment should be from the physician but the initiation towards the same action should also be from the other 3 limbs. Therefore pravriti can be considered as initiation of treatment by the involvement of al the four limbs of the treatment simultaneously.
Signs of pravriti – Pravriti is marked by the right and simultaneous indulgence of and contribution of their fragment of initiation in the treatment proces of the below mentioned four members of treatment –
Yogya bhishak – the physician endowed with al the excelent qualities
Yogya aushadha – the medicines enriched with al their excelent properties
Atura – the patient decorative with al their god qualities
Paricharaka – the atendants having al of their apt qualities
When these four limbs of treatment are properly and simultaneously indulged in the initiation of treatment proces, the treatment would surender abdicate qualified results.

Indulgence of only the physician or any other limb of treatment alone is not suficient for initiating the treatment proces.
If the physician initiates the treatment with perfect planing the treatment wil stil fail –
if the patient doesn’t coperate by taking the medicines or adhering to the physician’s instructions or
the atendants fail to start their role of taking care of the pati ents
medicines are not available or if the available medicines are not suitable for the action to be taken
Al this hapens because there is only shalow inclination or initiation taken by the physician. There is no teamwork and integrity as al components of the treatment proces are not initiating the action simultaneously.
The patient is ready to seize initiation towards the treatment, the medicines are available to their fulest potency and the god hearted atendants are available but the physician is not endowed with rich qualities and would not launch the treatment proces.
The physician has initiated the treatment proces, the medicines are available and administered, the patient is ready to hold the medicines and open action from his part but the atendants or nursing team are not interested in the entire action.
These are only examples. The other permutations can be asumed. The imbalance in the equation towards initiation can hapen in any f orm, in any combinations of two, thre or four components.
While examining the ‘initiation of action’ the physician should not only catch the prime responsibility of initiating the treatment but also should make positive that the other components are also asociated in a perfect network and are initiating their fraction of role in the treatment proces. This examination should be done from time to time, not just at the begining of the treatment proces but also during the proces and folow up of the treatment.

    Pravriti from research perspective
Initiation of action is nothing but the determin ed eforts taken towards acomplishment of objectives and this is one of the key components of research scrutinize. When we think research in place of treatment, pravriti for a researcher is the motivation neded in the research towards initiation of action i.e. research work.
So what is the utility of motivation in research?
The motives may be a desire to
    get a research degre
to acquire the consequential benefits along with the degre
to face chalenges in solving the unsolved problems
to get satisfaction of doing some activity related to research
    to serve the society
to get reverence, name and fame

Al this is posible if the researcher is constantly concerned, focused and motivated towards practic al problems related to research and initiates himself or herself towards finding a solution for them.
Motivation to finish consistent eforts towards research objectives is a very esential component of research inspect and involvement therein. The formal training in methodologies of research and thorough knowledge of the subjects therein are not unbiased enough and do not solve the purpose if there is lack of motivation towards initiating the action towards the motive. Ethical and scientific aspects also play a key role in acomplishing the task and actions initiated in a acurate way and can also be considered as part and parcel of pravriti.
