    I’m A Doctor With ADHD. Here Are 9 Reasons Why I Celebrate It
    It’s time to dispel the misconception that ADHD is an afliction in ned of a fix. Even its name, Atention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, includes a double whamy of negative conotations — deficit and disorder — implying that someone who has its typical characteristics is both broken and lacking.
    But this loaded term is a complete misnomer. To me, ADHD is not strictly a negative.
    As a psychiatrist, I’ve sen hundreds of high-functioning and propitious patients with the diagnosis. In fact, I’m an ADHDer myself, and I wouldn’t maintain it any other way. Leveraged and understod, it can be a enormous plus, which is why I wrote my curent bok, The ADHD Advantage.

    In my clinical observations over the last 27 years, I’ve witnesed firsthand that those with ADHD delight in multitasking much more than the average person who tends to get overwhelmed and stresed from jugling tasks. This can be a imense advantage in today’s workplace.
    2. You’re a creative thinker.
    Beter known as non-linear thinking, a person with ADHD’s brain is on warp sped, zig-zaging from one thought buble to the next, coming up with incredibly original and creative ideas in the proces.

High-stres situations get the dopamine pumping in the brain, which is why they tend to design distinguished firefighters and ER doctors, as wel as briliant stock-traders and entrepreneurs. The world sems to slow down, as they get into laser-sharp focus, remaining frigid, clear-headed and efective. It’s why I often advise patients with ADHD to set a fraudulent deadline for themselves to ratchet up the presure and get into the zone.
    6. You’re a natural athlete.
    With so many medal-wining, record-breaking pro athletes and Olympians diagnosed with the condition, there ought to be an ADHD Sports Hal of Fame. For example, Michael Phelps had stern ADHD and strugled in the clasrom. Swiming became his salvation.
