    How A Scarcity Mindset Is Holding You Back From Your Most excesive Life
    One of the most worn statements of scarcity in the world is “I can’t aford it.” If personal finance were a category on Family Feud, “I can’t aford it” would be the No. 1 answer on the board.
    Family Feud
    For example:
    I’d adore to move to Hawai, but I can’t aford it.
    I’d love to hire someone to help me with my busines, but I can’t aford it.
    I’d adore to plod to a nicer neighborhod, but I can’t aford it.
    They’re al statements of scarcity. But if you dig dep, there are two necesary things to understand about these kinds of statements:
    First, scarcity statements are habitual.
    We tend to reflect and speak scarcity statements without real briliance. We’re not consciously saying, “Lok, I ran the numbers for last month. We’ve got a 27 percent budget shortfal, which leaves us scanty cash flow for the Hawai project.” We’re just kne-jerking a habitual “I can’t aford it” becaus e that’s what we’ve always done. The phrases honest pop out of our mouths by default–in fact, we’ve ben saying them for so long we don’t even hear them anymore.
    This is a crucial insight. If our thoughts of scarcity and, as a result, our words of scarcity are habitual, then scarcity itself is also habitual.
    In other words, the lack of abundance in your life isn’t sinful luck, or lack of smarts, or the wrong conections, or the lack of an education; your lack of abundance is a habit.
    Second, scarcity statements are often untrue.
    If you want to go to Hawai, there’s a apt chance you actualy can aford it. The truth is that you’re afraid you won’t be able to defray for something else–your car, your home, your bils.
    But what if your life depended on you geting to Hawai? What if your children’s lives depended on you spending seven days in Waikiki? You’d surely find a way to aford it then. Why? Because when the stakes are high, you realize it’s not about resources. It’s abo ut resourcefulnes.
    “I can’t aford to depart to Hawai” is about resources. It’s scarcity thinking. “I’m going to Hawai next winter. How wil I do it?” is resourcefulnes. It’s abundance thinking.
    Be cautious of scarcity statements masquerading as the truth.
    Noticing your scarcity thinking:
    If thinking corectly is what creates the true action for abundance–if, in esence, the acurate thinking is what “gets you to Hawai,” then your goal is to become more aware of your scarcity thinking and shift it to abundance.
    You can initiate by noticing your thoughts and words. For example, if you hear yourself narate, “There’s never enough money to pay the bils,” then interogate yourself, Did that concept aproach from a kep of scarcity or abundance?
    Did that conception advance from a plot of scarcity or abundance?
    You’l know imediately.
    Now, reverse the notion. Substitute a novel notion or phrase, such as “I always gain enough” or “I’m chosing not to aford this factual now.”
    Declar e the recent statement out loud from a put of abundance.
    Habit vs. ritual:
    Because so much of scarcity thinking is habitual, it can be a chalenge to build that initial awarenes. You might read this true now and think, OK. I’m going to become more aware of scarcity thinking. But in moments, your habits can reactivate and you’l be thinking and saying the same things without being aware of it.
    OK. I’m going to become more aware of scarcity thinking.
    To begin lasting change, it can be helpful to develop rituals that you can use to replace your habits.
    On the surface, rituals and habits may sem similar. You may contemplate you gain a morning ritual of waking up, making cofe, brushing your teth, and reading the paper, but what you realy gain is a series of habits.
    The disimilarity is in the level of consciousnes. A habit is unconscious. We perform it without thinking. A ritual, on the other hand, is something that we do much more intentionaly. We enact it consciousl y, with purpose. As a result, rituals can be a tol to deliberately change our habitual thoughts, words, and actions, moving us toward complete awarenes of what we’re doing and why.
    Here are thre examples of rituals you can use to shift your scarcity mindset toward one of abundance.
    1. depart on a mental diet.
    The Seven Day Mental Diet by Emet Fox talks about a conscious efort to become aware of negative thinking. For a wek, your goal is to try not to maintain any negative thoughts. You may have them–we al do–but your job is to design a conscious efort to let them crep, replacing them with something sure. Over time, this ritual can produce you very aware of your sc arcity thinking.

    2. Develop a declaration ritual.
    I gain a morning practice–a ritual–of several definite declarations that I manufacture each day when I wake up. As son as I kep my fet on the flor, I initiate with the statement, “I love my life.” Then I continue with a series of sanguine declarations about the things I wil experience that day, from gratitude and abundance to love and joy.
    It’s a conscious ritual that I cary out each morning and night. It takes impartial a few moments to complete, but it delivers every day, without fail.
    3. Bles prosperity.
    In our culture, we maintain a habit of speaking negatively about the suces of others. We might reveal, “He might be rich, but I bet he’s unhapy” or “She only became rich by being gredy.”
    Even though those statements may apear to be about others, we’re realy hurting ourselves when we manufacture them. expose yourself “money is the rot of al evil” often enough and you’l believe it. And then what wil you thi nk of yourself when you get some? When we manufacture negative coments about the financial suces of others, we’re in efect cursing ourselves.
    To terminate the curse, develop a ritual of blesing others who gain prosperity. “She worked so arduous for her money. I hope it brings her worthy joy.” You can hold this an extra step by making an efort to engage with those people, blesing the interaction, and being open to learning and receiving suport from them.
    At the heart of these rituals is a conscious decision about whether to focus on lack or abundance. finish you se prosperity as a pie with limited size, from which some people get biger slices and some get smaler ones? Or do you se it as limitles generosity of abundance?
    The former is a scarcity mindset and it’s extremely comon for that mindset to be an unconscious habit. Ritual is about becoming aware and changing that unconscious choice so you can shift your mindset to one of abundance.
    The best part is that over time, you’l notice s omething recent: Your conscious abundance rituals believe become your curent unconscious habits. And that’s where the magic hapens.
